Everywhere is trance
The more aware you become, the more intentional you become.
The more hypnosis work I do, the more sensitive I become to the fact that there are trances all around us and there are many trances that have shaped parts of my life.
When I start to talk about this I either A: get people that are on board with the idea that almost everything we are surrounded by is a trance, or B: I get looked at like I have three heads so I thought it would be a good idea to take the conversation here and give you three examples of trances that I have talked about with at least one other person this week.
My goal is to share that trances can be good and bad, that they exist in nearly every part of life, and that you can change how you use them, or stop using them, or redirect your attention to a different trance anytime you decide.
Trance 1: Stimulation
Earlier this week, I was discussing with my partner a habit of falling asleep with the television on. He hates it; I am working hard to disrupt the habit, but it is really hard for me to fall asleep in the dark with no sound.
My television show of choice is Gilmore Girls, and after watching all the seasons multiple times this year, he asked: “Why that show?” My answer was simple: it’s soothing, and then I started to think back about where the habit might have formed.
All of a sudden I decided the habit formed when I was two or three after my parents separated. My dad had custody of me, and he always got annoyed that I had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, so he would turn on his TV or his fish tank and sometimes both, and his lava lamp. He would tell me to listen to the sounds and focus on either the fish or the lava bubbles to help me fall asleep.
I never really liked watching the fish all that much, but I liked the sound of the water swishing through the filter in the tank, and I loved watching the lava lamp.
I loved it so much, in fact, that I still miss it, and I have actually been dying to get a vintage lava lamp for years, because I remember it being so soothing. But I want one similar or exactly like the one I had as a kid; no modern replica will do.
As I told this story to him, I came to the realization that Gilmore Girls is my modern-day lava lamp, and that probably the best way to break this pattern of behavior is to find a lava lamp and use it to introduce a new trance for going to sleep.
I know I am not alone in needing noise and visual props to fall asleep; there is an entire industry of sound machines and projectors that help everyone from babies to adults sleep, and before those, we had glow stars and the radio and many other forms of induction into sleep or relaxation trances.
Even as I write this, I have a nature scene with soft music playing in the background on my television, a trance I have used since I was inducted into it during a series of medical treatments in 2025.
But really it’s all connected, and it all started with a Lava Lamp… and I bet if you think about it, you have a trance like this that you have engaged in for one reason or another for a long time, maybe even most of your life.
Trance 2: Subliminal messaging
I know people probably think I am so cringe because I listen to mantra music every day, but I do not really care because mantra music is my favorite self-hypnosis tool and it fucking works! I cannot even begin to describe how much I have manifested from listening to and singing mantras.
But this week I became compelled to listen to something I haven’t in years.
The Prodigy.
So there I was barreling down the freeway with Smack My Bitch Up loudly wafting through my speakers, and all these fun memories of drinking and smoking weed with my best friend and her older brother (who used to be like my older brother too) came flashing back in my brain. Dancing to this silly Bevis and Butthead dance we always paired to the music, making sour cream and cheddar chip nachos with banana peppers on them, cracking each other up in the jacuzzi while it snowed over our heads, collecting street signs, driving home buzzed without headlights to avoid getting caught, and lying on the floor laughing after dancing for hours. We had some really good times listening to that record (It’s called The Fat of the Land if you are too young to know who The Prodigy is, some of the OG raver type music.) but then the words started to sink in: “Change my pitch up, smack my bitch up” I thought to myself how is it possible I ever listened to this over and over and laughed about it but never understood what I was saying, what they were saying. How was I okay with this?
Then I thought I’m just getting old and being dramatic, so I went to the next track, Breathe. “Breathe the pressure, come play my game I’ll test ya. Psychosomatic addict, insane… Inhale, inhale, you’re the victim, come play my game…” Some pretty insidious lyrics being masked behind catchy beats.
Instead of again wondering how I never noticed it back then, I thought about the stories from the 60’s about records being played backwards to reveal hidden messaging, and how the entire hippie movement was disrupted by two government ops getting brilliant musicians and artists on LSD, and how that destroyed the movement and took some of the lives and the livelihoods of some of those artists.
It brought me present to the fact that music is a powerful trance.
Be mindful of what you listen to, especially consistently.
Trance 3: Outsourcing your divinity as a means of control
I spend a lot of time in public because of the work that I do, and when I say that it baffles me almost daily how much people rely on ChatGPT, I am not exaggerating. Before I go any further, I will preface that yes, I have used ChatGPT and DeepSeek in the past, but once I actually understood what these systems are and what they are doing, I discontinued using them and also I never ever used them for every little decision in my life; I just plugged in things here and there for a very brief timeframe, and then I stopped.
But here is what really irks me. In the last two weeks, I had someone tell me that their “spiritual advisor” was using ChatGPT to speak to higher consciousness and their spirit guides; I talked to someone using it to literally choose a nail polish color for a major event in their lives; I saw someone in the grocery store using it to decide what to eat (!!!!), and I have people in my life that use it for everything (and I do mean everything) even though they are 100% aware of the fact that with every click, they are killing the very enviroment from which they depend on for literal existence.
And it isn’t just maddening that someone is following a person in clear spiritual psychosis to be their spiritual guide, or that people cannot or will not make decisions themselves, or use their own brain to ya know think; it’s the fact that the system is working exactly as it is designed and millions of people out there are all caught up in a trance to exhaust, disable and disempower them and then look to that same system to for answers willingly, without batting an eyelash… which is insane.
If people could afford to live without having to work so much to survive, they wouldn’t be so tired and so willing to give over their attention and decision-making capability to a machine designed by the guys keeping them broke and exhausted.
If people were not inundated with an endless cycle of overwhelming news and information on top of being exhausted and overworked, they would have time to not only think and make decisions, but to dream and be creative.
If people had time to dream and be creative, imagine the beautiful and amazing things that might exist in this world? Art and creativity bring people together. Art and creativity inspire and create more art and creativity.
When people are together, they talk, connect, and learn from one another… They don’t stick their face in a glowing box and outsource their genius to a machine built by a system designed to destroy them.
Our bodies and our brains (I’m speaking to all forms of natural life, not just humans) are the most complex and magical creation ever designed. No one has ever been able to successfully replicate the magic that you possess.
But there is a team of very insidious people out there doing a great job of exhausting you and convincing you that there is something out there more incredible, more reliable, and smarter than you.
That’s the trance, not just chatgpt, its the whole thing. All of it. Once you see it, you won’t unsee it, and that is the magic of trance. You can choose it, or be an unconscious participant. You can use it, or be used by it. You can believe in it or not, but your belief doesn’t determine its existence. Food for thought.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone 💋✨

Well said! Now I want to listen to Prodigy haha
